About this site

Cap de Cala Figuera is the southern tip of the Calvià peninsula, crowned by its lighthouse, and it marks the western limit of the Bay of Palma. Below the cape the ground falls away quickly: you enter over shallow rock and within a few fin kicks you are at 20-25 m, with the wall on one side and open blue on the other.

It is a cape site, with everything that implies: the current comes and goes with the wind and the tide, so plan the route to run with it and come back to the mooring with a margin. In exchange, that same current is what brings the life. On the rock there are moray eels, octopuses, scorpionfish and groupers tucked into the cracks, and out in the blue you see schools of barracuda and damselfish.

This is one of the most dived stretches for the centres in the south-west of the island, which often chain it with Portals Vells or Illa del Sec on the same trip. The dive is not difficult in itself, but the fast drop-off and the current keep it out of reach for a try dive: at least an Open Water with a few dives logged is expected.

Above water, the lighthouse on the cape is the visual reference for orienting yourself from the surface.
