About this site

Camp de Mar is a small bay on the Andratx coast, closed in by high cliffs, with an islet in the middle linked to the beach by a walkway. That closed funnel shape is exactly what makes it useful for diving: inside there is almost never any sea running, and the bottom stays shallow for a long stretch.

The usual route follows the side walls of the bay, where the rock steps down between boulders, and then heads out towards the Posidonia seagrass meadow. On the rock there are moray eels, octopuses, white seabream and damselfish; over the seagrass, salema, cuttlefish and now and then a ray in the sandy clearings.

It is not a spectacular dive and does not try to be: it is where you go when the west is rough, when a course has to go ahead, or when you want a long, quiet dive. Depths stay in the comfortable range and you can enter from the shore or from a boat.

The trade-off is summer: the bay is a tourist beach with plenty of pleasure boats and swimmers, so always fly a buoy and take care on the ascent.
